Arno Votteler

Votteler's work displays a dedication to formal perfection and an innate sense of what is technically feasible.

His teachers at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart were Bauhaus student Herbert Hirche and interior designer Herta-Maria Witzemann, both of whom he eventually worked under before earning his degree in 1955.

In 1980, he established what is currently called the Weissenhof Institute, then known as the State Academy of Art and Design. By the time the 1960s came to a conclusion, Votteler was already running his own design studio.

Subsequently, he taught as a visiting professor in universities in Brazil, the United States, India, and China.

Arno Votteler, a designer for Walter Knoll in the 1950s, is most known for creating the 368 armchair, sometimes known as the "Votteler Chair."

The chair, which was designed in 1956, is a famous example of midcentury modern design.
