From Salone to Singapore — A Heritage of European Craftsmanship

From Salone to Singapore — A Heritage of European Craftsmanship

They say great journeys begin with a spark of inspiration — and for Royal Interiors, that spark ignited at Milan’s Salone del Mobile. As Tatler Asia recounts, the founder “visited the famed Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan, and instantly fell in love with the collections that were on show; he saw an opportunity to introduce European brands to Singapore.”

A Passion Born from Legacy

Before Royal Interiors existed, the Nandwani family was already immersed in luxury — running Royal Fabrics, a renowned upholstery textile business. In expanding the family legacy, Suresh Nandwani chose to extend from fabrics to full interiors: “from 2009 to 2013” he began offering furnishing and design services to existing clientele before launching the first showroom in 2014 at Tan Boon Liat Building.

The Showroom That Changed Things

In April 2021, Royal Interiors transformed its footprint with a showroom concept that’s as much about ambience as it is about inventory. Tatler highlights that the space is “much more retail-oriented as we want to widen our customer base by offering a designer brand for every budget”, yet it retains sophistication with “beautiful glass panels and double-height ceilings.”

Today, this showroom spans 21,000 square feet over four levels, housing a curated selection of European designers under one roof.

The Brands That Define Us

One of the strengths Royal Interiors has built is its brand curation. In Tatler’s words, these are some of the flagship lines:

“Walter Knoll, our most comprehensive high-end brand … over 150 years … has been modern and timeless simultaneously.”

Another is Fiam Italia, a brand celebrated for its mastery in curved glass furniture:

“Everyone who discovers the brand’s work for the first time is amazed by the beauty of the curves it can achieve only with glass.”

Then there’s Riva 1920, grounded in tradition and masterful woodworking techniques. Notably, it works with Kauri — a 50,000-year-old wood found in New Zealand:

“Riva 1920 is a true master of woodwork … Kauri … is a 50,000-year-old wood variety that is found underground in New Zealand.”

The more recent jewel in the crown is Lenzi Home, which focuses on marble. Tatler notes:

“Lenzi Home … specialises in marble … producing marble tables and accessories … and recently launched a home collection incorporating sofas and coffee tables.”

Some of the most popular models they carry?

“Bestselling products are the Walter Knoll armchairs, Fiam Italia mirrors, Riva 1920 benches and stools, and Lenzi Home marble dining tables.”

What’s Next — Expanding the Story

Looking forward, Tatler shares what Royal Interiors aims for:

“We hope to continue expanding our showroom within and outside Tan Boon Liat Building. Over the years, we have built a comprehensive portfolio of brands, and each of them deserves to be available in different locations in Singapore.”

That ambition is rooted in a mission not just to sell furniture, but to elevate Singapore’s exposure to timeless European design.
